Latex Allergy & Condoms: What You Need to Know
By ULEX Editorial Team • 4/5/2026
What Is a Latex Allergy?
Latex is made from natural rubber. About 1–6% of the population has some degree of latex sensitivity. Reactions can range from mild irritation to severe allergic responses.
Symptoms
🔴 Mild: Itching, redness, swelling at contact area within 30 minutes 🔴 Moderate: Hives, rash beyond contact area 🔴 Severe: Difficulty breathing, anaphylaxis (rare but serious)
Is It Latex or Something Else?
Condoms also contain lubricants and chemical accelerators used in manufacturing. Sometimes the reaction is to these additives, not latex itself. If you suspect an allergy, consult a doctor for a proper skin test.
ULEX & Latex
All current ULEX products are made from natural latex and are non-spermicidal. Our condoms are dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic — meaning they're manufactured with minimal irritants. However, if you have a confirmed latex allergy, you should use non-latex alternatives.
Tips if You Have Sensitive Skin
✅ Choose non-spermicidal condoms ✅ Use water-based lubricants only ✅ Avoid flavored condoms for penetrative sex ✅ Consult an allergist for testing ✅ Non-latex options: polyurethane, polyisoprene condoms
