10 Condom Safety Facts Every Adult Should Know
1. Correct Use = 98% Effectiveness
With perfect use, condoms are 98% effective at preventing pregnancy and significantly reducing STI transmission. With typical use, effectiveness drops to ~87% — almost always due to incorrect technique.
2. Air Burst Testing Is Mandatory
Every CE 0197-certified condom must pass air burst testing under ISO 4074. ULEX® Premium Condoms additionally carry TÜV Rheinland certification — a voluntary premium standard above the legal minimum.
3. Oil-Based Lubricants Destroy Latex
Never use coconut oil, baby oil, or petroleum jelly with latex condoms. These degrade latex within minutes, causing microscopic tears. Always use water-based or silicone-based lubricants. ULEX® condoms come pre-lubricated with premium silicone lubricant.
4. Condoms Have an Expiry Date
Latex degrades over time. Never use a condom past its expiry date. ULEX® condoms are labeled with a clear expiry date on every individual wrapper.
5. Heat and Wallets Are Enemies
Carrying a condom in your wallet for months — exposed to body heat and friction — accelerates latex degradation. Store condoms in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
6. Double Condoms Do Not Double Protection
Using two condoms simultaneously creates friction between them, increasing the risk of breakage. Use one properly.
7. Leave Space at the Tip
Always pinch the tip of the condom when putting it on to leave 1–2cm of space for semen. Failure to do this is a common cause of breakage.
8. Electronic Testing Catches Pinholes
ULEX® condoms undergo 100% electronic pinhole testing — every single unit, not just a sample. This is the highest quality control standard in condom manufacturing.
9. CE 0197 Is Not Enough Alone
CE 0197 is the minimum legal standard for condoms in the EU. ULEX® goes further with TÜV Rheinland and ISO 13485 certification — the same quality management standard used in medical device manufacturing.
10. Condom Failure Is Almost Always User Error
Studies show that condom failure in real-world settings is overwhelmingly caused by: incorrect sizing, improper application, incompatible lubricants, or using expired products — not material failure of properly certified condoms.
