How to Store Condoms & Check Expiry Dates
By ULEX Editorial Team • 4/5/2026
Where NOT to Store Condoms
❌ Wallet — friction, heat and pressure degrade latex ❌ Car glove box — extreme temperatures destroy latex ❌ Bathroom cabinet — humidity affects packaging ❌ Back pocket — body heat and friction
Ideal Storage Conditions
✅ Cool, dry place (15–25°C) ✅ Away from direct sunlight ✅ In the original packaging until use ✅ Drawer, bedside table, or dedicated storage box
How Long Do Condoms Last?
Most condoms last 3–5 years from manufacture date (check the foil wrapper). Condoms with spermicide have a shorter shelf life (~2 years). ULEX condoms are shipped fresh from production — not sitting in warehouses — ensuring maximum shelf life when you receive them.
How to Spot a Damaged or Expired Condom
🔍 Check before use:
- Look for the expiry date on the foil wrapper
- Feel for air — a small bubble of air in the packaging means it's intact
- Look for discoloration or brittleness when unrolled
- If it feels sticky or stiff — discard it
The 'Air Bubble' Test
Before opening, gently press the wrapper. You should feel a small air cushion. If the wrapper is flat, the seal may be broken and the condom should not be used.
